Artist Radar: Lubna Chaudhry
Q: What is your full name and do you have any nicknames that you go by as an artist?
A: Lubna Chaudhry. No nicknames here.
Q: How old are you and are you currently, planning to, or have attended art school?
A: I am currently 18 years young. I almost went to the Maryland Institute College of Art. But I bailed! I will study the Architecture.

Q: Where were you raised and does this play a role in your artwork?
A: I lived in Pakistan until I was 9, my childhood was a good one, and it played no role whatsoever in my artwork.
Q: Who and what inspires your art? Besides the usual answer such as family and life?
A: I don’t think anything inspires my art. I have to create it on my own, otherwise it’s not mine. I do put lyrics into some paintings, because well, I’m no writer. Sometimes it’s a feeling or a thought. Maybe this makes sense.
Q: What is the first thing that pops in your head when you wake up in the morning?
A: Well that was a weird dream. OR There is something seriously wrong with me.
Q: When was the first time you remember drawing something as a child, and, what was it?
A: I’m too old for this question! But there is proof that I drew on the walls with crayons, it was beautiful I’m sure.
Q: How would you describe your art?
A: Lets just say everybody doesn’t see the colors I see.

Q: When you encounter an artistic slump; how do you come out of it?
A: Listen to music. Turn the TV on and remember how I hate everyone. Works like a charm!
Q: If you would send out a message in a bottle for the next generation of Artists to read, what would it say?
A: Read more books.
Q: What art tools can’t you live without and why?
A: Vine Charcoal. I use charcoal to do the rough sketches underneath paintings, and without charcoal, there won’t be a painting. And without a painting I’ll be lonely.

Q: What non-art items can’t you live without?
A: Cereal. My phone, because I’m an technologically dependent human robot. And because I need to be in contact with my best friend at all times.
Q: How personal do you get in your artwork?
A: I’d like to think I don’t get very personal, but my art is me, so I guess it’s very personal. Dammit.
Q: What is your biggest motivation as an artist? This is different from inspiration, what I’m asking is what makes you pick up that brush, pencil, pen ect…?
A: It’s an addiction. I have to draw, or I’ll go more insane. I guess the need to put what’s in my head on paper motivates me.

Q: What is your favorite movie and book?
A: At the moment, I’m enjoying a book of short stories by F Scott Fitzgerald. And I’d like to own The Hangover, because I love Andy Bernard.
Q: What are you listening to on your iPod right now, and does music play a role in your art?
A: Sleeper 1972- Manchester Orchestra. Music soothes my soul enough for me to pick up the paintbrush.
Q: How do you feel when you are working on an art piece in terms or feelings, emotions?
A: Frustrated.
Q: Besides your art; are there any hobbies that you like to indulge in?
A: Hobbies are for squares!

Q: Is social media (blogs, myspace, facebook) and the internet in your words good for the art world and for you as an artist?
A: Fantastic, I like looking up artists, couldn’t waste my time without the internet.
Q: There is an big issue with people posting art and photographs on social networking sites (including tumblr) without giving credit to the artist. What are you thoughts on this and has it ever happened to you?
A: I like to give credit to the artist, hoping that people will go look them up on their own, if they care. But it happens, probably happened to me. I don’t think I care, unless they deliberately try to pass it off as they’re own. That’s a little fucked up. It’s like they’re stealing little bits of me.
Q: Where could people be able to find your art?
A: I don’t even think I can call myself an artist. But I have a flickr, if someone cares enough, shoot me a message here http://ivebeendegaussed.tumblr.com/ask
Q: Any advice to give to other artists out there?
A: Take a leaf of paper and draw your mind.
Q: Any last words?
A: You’re not as original as you think. Hate everyone. But on a side note, we all need to be thankful for all we have. And if I was you, I’d try and learn about other people and cultures. Don’t be an ignorant fuck.
